CS371g Fall 2020 Week 5: Siddhesh Krishnan
What did you do this past week?
This past week I worked more on the Voting lab. Reading in input was definitely difficult but my partner and I were able to figure it out by printing out what input we had as programmed our solution. In other worlds, I caught up on coursework for my other classes!
What’s in your way?
There isn’t anything in my way right now! The Voting lab’s algorithm seems fairly simple to implement and Professor Downing did an amazing job in explaining the various cases which could occur with the lab and how to handle each case.
What will you do next week?
Next week, I will continue to meet up with my partner and finish working on the Voting lab. We will work on optimizing our code and trying to ensure that our code works for ties and other special cases. Moreover, we will work on implementing some robust acceptance tests and ensure that our code passes these tests. In other worlds, I have an algorithms test next week as well which I will study for.
What was your experience of values, addresses, references and consts? (this question will vary, week to week)
Values are a fairly familiar concept to me so I am glad we are going over this. Addresses and references are something which I have worked with in the past in CS 429 and CS 439. My experience with them, however, is limited so it is great that we are going over these topics now. Finally, consts are are something new to me, but they are fairly easy to understand.
What made you happy this week?
This week, I went to career-fair and had the opportunity to talk to various engineers from various companies. It was great to finally have something similar to a “face-to-face” conversation with someone who I already don’t know.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
My tip-of-the-week this week would be to go outside. Often times, staying at home makes us feel cooped-up and going outside allows us to have a breath of fresh air and make us feel at ease. So, go outside!
